My apologies to those wanting to change their schedules ASAP.  Counselors had to fill in students schedule that weren't a complete 7 period class schedule.  We have exciting ideas this year...field trips, college fairs etc.

To ALL students:  Most if not all classes have the " De Anza Counseling Corner Poster" posted in their classrooms.  It is laminated and has the Counseling office info, process on how to request to see a counselor etc. as well as the Health Center info there as well.   Please refer to that poster if for any reason you would like to know who your counselor is, hours available, and services provided etc.

Again, thank you for being patient.

Monday, August 13, 2012

First Day of school...I'm very impressed on how students kept their patience.  They filled out the required forms if wanted to be seen by their counselor or even wanted some changes in their schedule.  Counselors where busy today scheduling new students with empty or no schedules at all.  Hopefully, we get the scheduling ironed out within this week and then start doing our one on one with our SENIORS!!!

As these scheduling changes occur, we don't allow choosing teachers or moving classes around to fit students' liking.  Changes done only if you were placed in the wrong class level, have duplicate classes, needed classes to make-up A-G or for graduation requirements.  Academy changes are requested through your Academy Leads which are: Health Academy - Mr. Thomas, ITCA- Mr. Hillyer and LAW - Ms. Rivera.  Please go see them for a request to change academies.  Thank you!

Reminders:
SENIORS requesting to be a TA for a teacher, student MUST have a 3.0 total GPA, understand duties of a TA, request the TA form from the teacher of their choice, get it signed by their parent/guardian, and return it back to the teacher.  We then get these form back from the teachers, will verify and schedule.

Concurrent Enrollment at CCC has passed... First day of class for FALL 2012 is Aug 17, 2012.  BUT, if you plan on trying to enroll for FALL 2012, you must do what is recommended below (Taken from CCC FALL Calendar), AND pick up a SIGNED concurrent enrollment form form the counselor.  Classes taken at CCC or DVC must be those scheduled out of DAHS class times :-) fyi

***Aug 17 - 30 is the LATE ADD PERIOD - students must obtain a late add code from the instructor and use it on web advisor before expiration

BACK TO SCHOOL!

The past school year has gone by so fast, it is now SY 2012-2013!!!  Seemed like I never really had any summer vacation.  Too busy with alot of trainings and collaboration.  I can't complain because I am excited for new school year.  As I collaborated with my partner in crime (Ms. Tang - counselor), great ideas has emerged.  We learn form past mistakes and fix on to improve.

First Day of school tomorrow and alot of changes has happened.  Though we don't start at the New building...I am excited to see the students again.  Changes I can say for the better.  To share, we are happy to say that the counseling department is working closely with the Health Center, teachers and administrative team.  We made posters for teachers to post in their classrooms.  These are information for both the Counseling office as well as the Health Center.  I strongly feel, students as well as teachers, will be more informed of the steps regarding how to refer as well as see a counselor or even go to the Health Center, what the services are etc.

We have great goals for all students this school year 2012-2013.  Wishing for a successful implementation.

GO DONS!!!  =)
